Vegas Strip Denny’s to Reopen Next Year

The busiest location of one of the most recognizable eating establishments in the United States is now closed, albeit only temporarily.

Denny’s on the Las Vegas Strip has shut its doors – for now – as it undergoes renovations, the Las Vegas Review-Journal said this week.

Location is one of the Strip’s oldest restaurants

Denny’s, which opened its first iconic American diner in Lakewood, California more than 60 years ago, is headquartered in South Carolina.

The Strip location, situated directly across from the Mirage, served nearly 750,000 customers last year, according to the paper.

And while many visitors to the nation’s premiere gambling destination rely on constant change, especially along the famed Las Vegas Strip, the Denny’s in question has been a long-standing feature, dating all the way back to 1966.

It is set to reopen next year and in the meantime, the majority of its staff members will be used at other company restaurants.

Addressing the closure, John Miller, who is Denny’s president and chief executive officer, said, “We have a marquee location with this restaurant, and we now have the opportunity to work closely with our landlord to incorporate our new Heritage brand image and add additional seating capacity so that we can continue to serve Denny’s craveable breakfast, lunch and dinner 24 hours a day. We are proud to bring a fresh experience to this location and eagerly look forward to its completion in 2015.”

New attractions could be a “grand slam”

For those visitors who my be missing their Moons Over My Hammy, a few new entertainments going up along Las Vegas’ most famous street might be a salve for the wounds.

The Linq, with a massive Ferris wheel attraction called the High Roller, is set to open soon.

Caesars, the developer of the huge ride, announced this week that the outdoor shops at The Linq are now in business, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.

Visitors can also enjoy an ice skating rink, set to be available through the 20th of this month.

Thrill seekers might also enjoy the VooDoo zip line over at the Rio. While riders of this activity do have to leave the Strip, they should be sure to bring their courage.

The zip line travels nearly 35 miles per hour and stretches high above the ground at 490 feet over street level. Riders zip down to the top of the Ipanema Tower, and then ride backwards up to the starting point.
