When Jerry unwittingly agreed to wear a puffy shirt designed by Kramer’s ‘low-talking’ girlfriend, Jerry whined to Kramer, “But I don’t want to be a pirate?”
Scientific Games announced in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products that they were produced the Seinfeld licensed slot machine. Seinfeld Slots is based on the 10-time Emmy Award-winning sitcom which ran from 1989 to 1998. The Seinfeld Slot Machine is being debuted at Global Gaming Expo 2016 this week in Las Vegas.
The Seinfeld Slot follows in the wake of a variety of top sitcoms with their own licensed slots: I Love Lucy, The Beverly Hillbillies, and I Dream of Jeannie are only a few examples.
When one expands the list to include TV game shows, some of the most popular casino slots have been television franchises: Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, The Price Is Right, and Who Wants To Be a Millionaire.
Gamescape Slot Machine Box
Scientific Games said its game would use the revolutionary GAMESCAPE™ slot platform. The box is going to have 5 screens, including a touchscreen button panel and angled HD screens for dynamic gaming and maximum visual clarity.
The Seinfeld game box is going to provide clips and soundbites from the American sitcom, which ran for 9 seasons on NBC’s “Must See TV” Thursday night lineup. Alongside shows like Friends and E.R., NBC continued a long dominance of Thursday night prime time.
Derik Mooberry on the Unveiling
Derik Mooberry, the Chief Executive of Gaming for Scientific Games, sounded excited to introduce the game. Mooberry said, “We are ecstatic to unveil the SEINFELD slot game to attendees of G2E and entertain players on casino floors soon. “

A Show About Nothing
Seinfeld was famously “a show about nothing“. That was an early unfavorable critical review of the sitcom, which was worked into the series when Jerry Seinfeld and George Costanza (played by Jason Alexander) decided to write a TV pilot about their lives. On the TV show, a pundit criticized the TV pilot as a show about nothing.
The show was produced by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, who later had success with HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” sitcom.
The character of George Costanza was based upon Larry David, while Cosmo Kramer (played by Michael Richards) is said to have been based on Jerry Seinfeld’s onetime real life neighbor, Kenny Kramer. The Kramer on the TV show was described as a “hipster doofus”, which describes Cosmo Kramer quite well. Jerry’s former girlfiend, Elaine (played by Julia Louise-Dreyfus), rounded out the four main characters.
Together, the four got into a lot of random misadventures, as Seinfeld tried not to fall into the same conventions that other sitcoms did. Ironically, Seinfeld spawned a whole generation of copycat shows, which also took place in New York City and also tried to capture a less structured style of comedy. Most failed.
Seinfeld Slot Machine Clips and Soundbites
It would be hard to put together a limited number of clips from the program, due to the huge number of great scenes from classic episodes: “The Parking Space”, “The Contest”, “The Puffy Shirt”, “The Marine Biologist”, “The Pie”, “The Opposite”, and “The Switch”. Those are just a few of my favorite episodes, but there are so many others which are clip-worthy. Those who have never watched the show should watch anything from the 5th and 6th seasons (except the 100th ‘best of’ episode), which are in my opinion the absolute best seasons.
Those who play the slot machine should except to see classic Seinfeld clips like “Yada Yada Yada”, the Soup Nazi, Elaine’s dance, Mulva, the Keith Hernandez episode based on the JFK movie, any of a number of scenes with Frank Costanza, and the scene where the Bubble Boy tries to choke George out. Favorite non-lead characters like Newman, J. Peterman, and David Putty are likely to make an appearance.
Perhaps even Bryan Cranston in an early role as Elaine boyfriend and dentist, Tim Whatley, will make it into the game. It’s a very different role for Cranston, who is best known for his work on “Breaking Bad”.
Expected Out in Early 2017
Seinfeld Slots is debuting this week that the 2016 Global Gaming Expo (G2E). Players can expect to see Seinfeld Slots in selected Las Vegas Strip casinos in early 2017. The game is likely to disseminate throughout the United States in the following months.
This is a classic American sitcom franchise which was bound to happen eventually. With the addition of Seinfeld to the mix, players can expect to see a variety of other sitcoms from the same era to start trickling into land-based casinos: Friends, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Everybody Loves Raymond, or That 70’s Show might eventually get their own slot machine.
Bally Technologies, a Scientific Games property, might be called upon to convert Seinfeld Slots to online gaming software at some point. That is for the more distant future, but Seinfeld Slots is as surefire of a can’t-miss success as you can get.
