Troubled singer Chris Brown is the suspect in a battery case at the Palms Hotel-Casino on Saturday. The incident happened hours after Chris Brown gave a concert on the Las Vegas Strip. He had performed on the night of January 1 at Drai’s Nightclub at the Cromwell Hotel-Casino.
Police say the incident occurred about 10:20 am on Saturday, January 2. Chris Brown was not arrested, but remains a suspect in an ongoing investigation. This is not the firtt such incident Chris Brown has had. In 2009, Brown was sentenced to 6 years of probation for the assault of pop singer Rihanna, who was Brown’s girlfriend at the time. At the time, he pleaded guilty to assault. Several times since that high-profile case, Brown has been in several altercations.
She Claims He Punched Her, Stole Her Phone
According to the Daily News, Chris Brown is being investigated for “punching a woman in the eye” as she tried to take his picture at a private party Saturday morning at the Palms. TMZ later posted a photo of the woman, showing her swollen eye. She told the tabloid site she was able to sneak her phone past Chris Brown’s security people. When he later saw her snapping a photo with the phone, he “went off”. The woman, Liziane Gutierrez, claims he yelled at her, then punched her in the eye once. Hours later, she called the police, who then paid a visit to Chris Brown to investigate.
Chris Brown’s Instagram Post
Chris Brown later wrote on Instagram that he had not punched Liziane Gutierrez or stolen her phone while at the Palms Hotel. He said in his Instagram post, “I’m going to be hella rich after all the lawsuits I file from these crazy individuals who keep lying on my name. Happy NEW YEAR! Time for us to grow the f— up!”
He said in the same post, he said, “Keeping my circle small in 2016. I’m done taking care of grown a– men.”
To end his communication on social media, Chris Brown then posted a selfie which was seen by 21 million Instagram members. He later was quoted by TMZ saying he “was on the attack now”, because he would countersue his accuser.
“Unequivocally Untrue”
Nicole Perna, Brown’s public relations rep, added her own thoughts to The Wrap. Perna said, “Whatever her motives, her statements are unequivocally untrue. Making false accusations seems to be a pattern of behavior of Ms. Gutierrez.”
Chris Brown’s Troubled Past
The problem with that logic is that Chris Brown has a pattern of behavior that says he is violent — and sometimes violent with women. In June 2012, Chris Brown was involved in a scuffle with Drake and his entourage at the WIP nightclub in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City. Eight people, including San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker, were injurd in the brawl. That led to Brown making a “diss record” about Drake. Two years later, the two were in a ESPY Awards skit making fun of the incident.
Chris Brown and Frank Ocean (singer, songwriter, rapper) had an altercation over a parking spae outside a West Hollywood recording studio. Police investigated Brown punching Frank Ocean, who said he would not press charges, despite Brown allegedly threatening to shoot him.
Arrested for Attack on Fan
In October 2013, Brown and his bodyguards are alleged to have attacked a fan while making a photo. Two women asked to have asked to have their picture made with Brown. He agreed, but lost his cool when two male fans tried to get in the picture. He is alleged to have said, “I’m not into this gay stuff. I’m into boxing,” and then attacked one of the men.
Brown was arrested for breaking the fan’s nose and spent 36 hours in a D.C. prison. The Washington police transported him to jail in “shackles”. The entertainer later entered anger management rehab, while it was rumored the judge in the Rihanna case might revoke his probation and send him to prison for 4 years. The judge eventually ordered him to stay in rehab the full time, but Brown was kicked out of treatment. The judge then sent him to 131 days in jail which, along with the 234 days already served in treatment, amounted to a 365 day sentence.
Official Troubles Stemming from Violent Actions
Reports later surfaced about irregularities involving Brown’s community service for earlier legal issues. It appears he was credited with doing community service while out of the country. His trips out of the United States have been problematic in other ways. He had to cancel Canadian tour dates after Canada would not let him travel to their country, due to his legal issues. Brown also had trouble with authorities in the Philippines, after he reportedly no-showed at a church-related concert. Authorities eventually allowed him to leave the country.
